The many faces of Antonette

Being a part of Rose Ferns dramatic troupehas only given this young lady an advantage and polished her skills in acting, asRose Ferns has, over time, entrusted her with the diverse roles of a daughter,daughter-in-law, mother, and grandmother.

Antonette de Curtorim’s dedication to the roles she plays is extremely evidentin the manner that she studies and prepares for her parts. She has played therole of a Lamani woman in Rose Ferns’ show ‘Hem Amchem Goem’ to perfection.Recalling those challenging moments she states, ‘I would go and spend some timewith the Lamani women in Benaulim, just to learn their accent, behaviour, dresscode etc. This helped to give a near perfect portrayal.’

Antonette de Curtorim began as a ‘Khell’ (carnival plays) artist, she graduallygraduated into a full-fledged tiatr artist. She made her debut on the Konkanitiatr stage in 1998 for Milagres de Chandor, and 14 years later she has made a spacefor herself among the stars of the stage. Prince Jacob too cast her into hisplays for two seasons.

She is presently a permanent member of the Rose Ferns dramatic troupe, and hasbeen for the last 8 years. Tony de Ribandar, she says, encouraged her to trysinging in tiatrs by giving her solos to sing. Today she is even comfortableand confident of doing the opening song.

She is one such artiste who is known for her flashy and stylish dress code onstage. From miniskirts to hot pants, and from gowns to saris, with colourfulpurses to match her designer shoes, she has
them all. Disclosing her love for dressing she says ‘I shop extensively for myclothes and shoes in Dubai or in the United Kingdom whenever I visit thesecountries o perform. As an artist I need to wear appealing outfits, so I eventake care to do a little extra work on the clothes I wear on stage.’

As a youngster she always dreamed of being a professional actor and now thatshe is one, she immerses herself fully in the role given to her to bring aboutan impacting performance. She has so far performed for Mini Mario, Menino deBandar, Tony Dias, Albert-Roma, and Samuel Carvalho and others. A bright futureis in store for this smiling and friendly artiste.
