The batch of 180 constables of Indian Reserve Batalian (IRB) who are undergoing training on duty under BSF in Manipur have asked for the Goa chief minister’s intervention after a series of attacks near their camp by Naxalites.
Constables on the condition of anonymity told The Goan that thesituation at the Imphal camp is very scary and all 180 cadets of IRB Goa fear fortheir lives after Naxalites openly challenged to attack all their camps inManipur.
“I will be thankful to the chief minister if he intervenedand bring back us home, because we don’t have enough training yet to defend ourselvesfrom such kind of attacks” another constable said.
“We are more scared when Naxalites have openly challengedand it has appeared in the Manipur daily newspapers, they have threatened toattack on all camps of IRB, BSF, CRPF and Assam Rifles” the constable said. Heinformed us that you cannot judge who is a civilian and who is Naxalite as “Everybodyhere in this area carries guns.”
The Goan was told that on August 14 and 16 there were twoblasts near their camp and out of 8 IDs planted the BSF was able to disable 2ID but 6 are still alive somewhere in the vicinity of our camp. It is also believedthat two Naxalites have been arrested by the BSF.
180 IRB constables from Goa were reached on August 5, 2012for the training cum duty in the Manipur under the BSF (Border Security Force)for a period of two months. “As promised to us before leaving from Goa they(BSF) has not escorted us through the Naxalites areas, we have reached campthrough buses that too in very bloodcurdling states,” the constables said.
“We would have not hesitated to continue training or dutyhere if we would have enough training or experience to defense such type ofsituation” constables from IRB Goa said.
