PERNEM:
An ambulance was gutted in a fire at Dhargal while it was taking a patient from Sawantwadi-Maharashtra to the GMC hospital at Bambolim in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The patient and attendants were unharmed and were shifted into another ambulance.
The incident took place at about 3 am when the ambulance was proceeding along the NH66 to Bambolim. The driver noticed sparks in the engine and quickly stopped the ambulance by the roadside.
The patient and others in the ambulance were shifted into another ambulance and a short while later, the ambulance was engulfed in flames.
A fire tender from the Pernem fire station went to the site and extinguished the fire.
