From January 2007 comedian Ambe began scripting andproducing his own tiatrs. His first professional tiatr was ‘Hi Kudd MatiekLaitam’ in January 2007. Thereafter, he went on to  produce 11 tiatrs on the trot, making quitean impact and making his presence felt as a playwright among the other seniors.

What has surprised his fans and tiatr lovers alike is thesudden absence of Comedian Ambe among the list of producers/directors thisseason. He has revealed that he has taken a temporary break and disbanded histroupe which he had employed for five years. Having no engagements any longerthe artistes from his troupe thereafter joined the other troupes for thepresent season.

Speaking to The Goan, Comedian Sandeep Ambe said “I know ithas come as a surprise to all.

But, the fact that I am not planning a new tiatr for thisnew season was made known to all my artistes in advance and they were given thefreedom to join whichever playwright they fancied. I know what I am doing, andthis is only a temporary break for a year. I will come back with full force.”

Shifting from a comedian to the role of a writer-directorand attaining a level is not an easy task. The Goan sought to know what Ambe’sexperiences in the shoes of a director were. In all sincerity Comedian Ambesaid, “Being a director I have learnt one thing for sure. Tiatr lovers are noteasily willing to accept or welcome new artistes. They only desire to seeestablished names and seasoned faces in the cast. Even an artiste who has wonaccolades and awards at the Kala Academy tiatr festival will find no favour oracceptance with the choosy audience. If tiatr has to move upwards and developfurther this attitude has to change and the audience has to accept andencourage new talents.”

According to Ambe, even the village contractors who stageshows in the villages insist that the cast should include at least fiveestablished and senior artistes, or else they are reluctant to book the show.In the meantime, Ambe’s fan can enjoy his comedy in Menino de Bandar’s tiatr,‘Tumchinch Bhurguim’ till he returns with new ideas and a new plot after ayear’s break.
