Communication has advanced in Goa so much that students cannow interact with their teachers and other batchmates in other other linkedcampuses. This type of technology know as " BITS Connect 2.0 " isavaliable only to the cream , as in the engineering students who have excelledin academics and are enrolled in an of the four BITS Pilani Institutions arepriviledged to this technology since 10th January 2013.
Moving on with detail, the BITSConnect 2.0 is amulti-million dollar project that envisions bringing state-of-the-arttelepresence and inter-connectivity.It has enabled remote learning andparticipatory coursework, collaborative research and remote recruitment.BITSConnect 2.0 is a giant step for BITS Pilani in the direction of becoming aworld class university and aims to create the first ever multi-campus virtualuniversity in India.Using Telepresence quality video conferencing technologies,they plan to make collaborative research and interactive learning a routine partof students' and faculty lives. This will be the largest video conferencingsetup ever done in any educational institute in India.
Collaborative research
BITS's aims to become a Premier Research Institute asmentioned in the "Vision 2020, Mission 2012″ plan and this will beachieved by not only bringing the faculty members from all campuses in aparticular field of study to collaborate for both coursework and research, butalso helping them collaborate with researchers and academicians from other universitiesand institutes around the world.The BITSConnect 2.0′s Webex solution helps overcome the Geographical divide and aid the professors to work together closelyfrom the convenience of their offices or homes or even while on the move.
Better administration
BITSConnect 2.0 will facilitate all the Administators toengage in a Video Conference at the click of a button from Desktops, MobilePhones and Tablet PCs.This technolohywill cut administrative costs and downtimes usually associated with travel andincreasing in the overall productivity of the BITS Administration.
Remote teaching
Faculty crunch is a growing problem in most universities.The installation of BITSConnect 2.0 will help make Faculty crunch anon-existent term in the dictionary of BITS-Pilani. For instance, if BITS hasto offer specialized electives like Machine Learning in all campuses, it has tohire qualified faculty for every such elective in each of the 4 campuses. As itoften happens, a single campus might have less demand for specializedelectives, making it very difficult to launch electives in all 4 campuses.One200-seater classroom in each of the 4 campuses can enable at least 16 coursesper semester, thus potentially influencing the education of 1000s ofstudents.As for the Alumni, BITSConnect 2.0 adds an entirely new dimension tohow they can consistently contribute and collaborate with BITS towardsdeveloping the course curriculum.
