Later, the Cumbarjua bridge was also inaugurated by the dignitaries. With the inauguration of the two bridges, the distance between Old Goa and Marcel and other places will be considerably shortened. However, only two and four-wheelers will be allowed to ply. Speaking at the function after the inauguration of Gaundalim bridge, Parrikar said this bridge faced a lot of hurdles.“One of the poles got a crack due to which a jacket had to be inserted,” Parrikar said while advising the GSIDC officials to carry out load testing on the same. However, Parrikar said there are still some more issues which need to be sorted out particularly road-widening along the Old Goa stretch, which is currently facing hurdles from ASI. “Only when all connecting roads are widened will this bridge be fully beneficial,” he said while stating that the government is working out on resolving the issues with ASI. “At the railway crossing, a flyover needs to be built,” Parrikar said while pointing out that it will take some time till all things fall in place. “Once the Amona-Virdi bridge is complete, it will further benefit people from Sakhali, Valpoi and other areas,” he added.
