Mopa airport: 618 persons compensated for acquired land

Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha on Thursday informed Goa Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik that a total of 618 persons have been compensated for their land acquired for Mopa airport at the rate ranging from Rs 25 to Rs 80 per sq mtr.

Total area acquired by the Goa Government for the construction of airport is 78,41,730 sq mts, Sinha informed the House.

The Minister further informed that around 7,869 occupants and tenants are entitled for compensation for their land and that a total of 87 people have applied for enhanced compensation.

Area marked for commercial utilization is 381 acres which is 18.2 per cent of the total project area, the Minister said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Urban Development, Rao Inderjit Singh informed the Goa MP, in a written reply, that till date a sum of Rs two crore has been allotted to Goa Government for Panaji City under the Smart City Mission.

In terms of Smart Cities Mission Guidelines, the Government of India will provide financial support to the Mission to the extent of Rs 48,000 crore over five years or on an average Rs 100 crore per city per year. An equal amount on a matching basis will have to be contributed by the State/Urban Local Body (ULB). So far, a total of Rs 4,572.20 crore has been released to cities under Smart Cities Mission during the financial year 2015-16 and 2016, the Minister informed.
