Tiatr’s ailing artists

2012 has proven to be a year that has seen several renowned members of the Konkani stage suffer from health issues in various degrees. The latest victim of illness is none other than famous comedian Ben Evangelisto

The tiatrist fraternity were in a state of shock when theylearnt that Ben Evangelisto, the ace character comedian of the Konkani stage,suffered a mild stroke whilst performing on stage for a afternoon show at theRavindra Bhavan on December 11. He was in the midst of a performance when hecollapsed. Ben was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Margao in anemergency condition and admitted to the ICU for treatment. The remaining partof the show had to be continued in his absence. The news spread fast across thetiatrist fraternity and hundreds of fans and friends rushed to the hospital toenquire about the status of his health.

A C T performed on him showed the presence of a blood clot.After three days in the ICU, the blood clot was dissolved clinically. He washospitalised and kept under observation for a few days more and got dischargedon December 16 after he showed remarkable improvement from the stroke. He isnow on the way to full recovery and presently convalescing at his residence inBenaulim.

The year 2012 seems to be a year of serious health concernfor the tiatrist fraternity when two of their senior artistes, Antonette deCalangute suffered a health setback with renal failure and Jessie Dias wasforced to take a three month break for health reasons. The general public isgiven to understand that tiatrist Bonny Pereira has been hospitalised as well,as he is suffering from a foot injury.

The tiarist fraternity as well as their numerous fans lookforward to 2013, with the hope that the New Year will usher in a new dawn andrestore the health of the ailing artistes.
