All major temples in Mapusa have decided to keep their doors shut to devotees until September 30 and once again to review the decision at the end of the month.
The executive committee members of all temples in Mapusa arrived at the decision after holding a joint meeting at the Hanuman Natyagraha on Monday.
With no indication of decline in Covid cases in the State, the temple committees thought it was not appropriate to open the temples to the faithful any time soon.
“All the representatives of various temples in Mapusa met and have decided to keep the temples closed until September 30 in view of the pandemic,” said Tushar Tople, convener of the meeting.
He further said certain religious rituals will be performed in a limited way under closed doors without public participation. “We will meet again in September-end to decide on future course of action,” he said.
Presidents of Vitthal Rakhumai Temple in Mapusa, Shri Hanuman Maharudra Sanstha temple, Mapusa, Shri Ganesh temple at Ganeshpuri, Shri Sateri Devi temple at Khorlim, Laxmi Narayan temple, Mapusa, Shri Datta temple, Shri Ganesh temple at Khorlim, Shri Rastroli temple, Shri Ganesh Temple at Ganeshpuri and Ghateshwar temple at Khorlim attended the meeting.
