Ambert D’souza, founder of K7 band, believes in dreaming big and trusting the capabilities of his band mates he hopes to tour internationally. As the founder, front-man, and lead singer/rhythm guitarist of K7, Ambert has been singing for two decades. Apart from music he loves playing basketball. “Currently, I am focusing on my individual music career too and have released two original songs on Spotify, and am working towards making more music. I am also a professional graphic designer and video-editor/animator.”
Inspired by his favourite artists – TOTO, ACDC, John Mayer, Justin Beiber, Eminem, Imagine Dragons he took to singing during school days, participating in every singing competition, and consistently winning first place. One of his first significant achievements was reaching the semi-finals of ‘Voice of Goa’ in 2014. Friends encouraged Ambert to try out for this prestigious contest and he did it, easily qualifying through the first two rounds and making it to the semi-finals.
“Unfortunately, I chose the wrong song for that stage and didn’t make it through, but this didn’t demotivate me. The experience was amazing, and it was then I knew I wanted to be part of a band. After trying to join one without success, I decided to form my own band in 2015, and with the support of my friends, K7 was born. It’s almost a decade now. While nine years might seem short in the music industry, there has been no looking back since the beginning. I had a clear vision for the type of music I wanted to create, and the team necessary to bring it to life,” narrates Ambert who along with his musical team is rocking Goa, winning applauds and appreciations from the audience at events and occasions, weddings, corporate gatherings and parties.
Goa is known for its vibrant music scene. “During peak season, we focus heavily on maintaining strong relationships with past clients, as most of our bookings come through word of mouth. We actively promote our performances on social media, sharing reels and highlights that showcase our shows. It’s rewarding to see couples looking forward to our wedding videos, which we upload within a week or two. Over the years, we've built a solid reputation not just for our music and performance, but also for our curated set lists and hospitality, which keeps clients coming back.”
K7 keeps uploading content on YouTube and the channel has grown in terms of viewers and followers. Ambert explains, “We primarily upload cover videos and highlights from our performances on YouTube. This content helps us reach a wider audience and showcases our style and energy. We’re currently working on original music videos as well, which will further diversify our offerings and engage our fans even more.”
Disclosing the fee structure Ambert adds, “Our performance fees based on several factors, including the location, duration of the performance, and our years of experience in the industry. Our pricing reflects the quality and professionalism we bring to each event, ensuring that clients receive exceptional value for their investment.”
Team K7 comprises of Agnes Fernandes, the keyboard player and female vocalist, and also one of the founding members of the band. Taking her music lessons at ‘Taught to Teach’ in Porvorim, Agnes passed the exams with distinction from ‘Trinity College-London’. A graduate from ‘St Xavier’s College, Mapusa she pursued her BBA degree and is currently working as a social media coordinator for a marketing firm. “I also run my own home-based small business ‘Guilty Pleasures Goa’ and wish to turn my hobbies into my profession, wanting to break the stereotype mentality regarding career choices,” she quips.
Vinsferd Fernandes has the constant drive to expand his potential and experiment with various playing styles. This Salvador do Mundo boy began his musical journey at 11 with violin. His grand uncle, a violinist and choir master fuelled Vinsferd’s determination to carry on the family's musical legacy. Besides being engaged in social media marketing and branding, he plays football too.
Desmond Bayross is the lead guitar virtuoso at K7. Beyond the stage and strings, Desmond's world expands into football and the tranquil art of gardening. Drummer Ashton Lopez cleared 8 grades in Trinity College London’s Rock and Pop Drum examinations. Beyond the rhythm and beats, he likes exploring new destinations, cycling, capturing the world through his lens in photography, and even chasing after the excitement of football.
K7 incorporates retro Bollywood hits to resonate with the audience's nostalgia, creating a familiar and inviting atmosphere. “Gradually, we transit to new-age trending Bollywood tracks, ensuring that our set list stays fresh and appealing to all age groups. This blend allows us to engage the crowd and keep the energy high throughout our performances. Some of our achievements include playing for the launch of ‘Soul Curry’ featuring Jackie Shroff, winning the Battle of Bands 2019 at Goa Institute of Management, performing at Oktoberfest, Carnival and other major festivals in Goa. We have also done gigs at Bengaluru, Mysore, Mumbai and Delhi,” he says.
Sharing his plans for the upcoming season in Goa, Ambert says, “We are focusing on creating original music that resonates with evolving musical tastes. We’re also excited to release two new YouTube videos that showcase our hard work from the off-season. We're committed to giving our 100 % to our set list and connecting with our audience in fresh ways. Currently, we're working on something intriguing that we look forward to unveiling soon. This success is a testament to the dedication of my entire team,” concludes Ambert.
