In a novel way to spread awareness on road safety, Calangute Police on Christmas eve conducted a surprise drive to educate people on traffic rules.
Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi informed that the drive was conducted to educate people about traffic rules and safety.
PI Dalvi along with police sub inspectors and the staff stopped several people violating traffic rules and distributed pamphlets about traffic safety to the violators. A member of the staff was dressed as ‘Santa Claus' and the police gave chocolates to the public and told them to follow rules. However, the public was also warned that they would be fined the next time they were found in violation.
Police officers also told the children to inform their parents about safety rules. Eighty per cent of the two-wheeler riders were found without helmets.
PI Dalvi appealed to the two-wheeler riders to wear helmets not in fear of the law but for their own safety.
The drive went on for over two hours and almost 500 vehicle riders and drivers were distributed pamphlets and given chocolates. It's a one of a kind initiative as the police wanted to impart information about safety rules without spoiling the festive and party mood of the public.
Many locals and residents have appreciated the initiative of the Calangute Police.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Kiran Poduwal and SP North Karthik Kashyap.
