Checks on spurious sanitisers needed

Since long doctors have advised us to have less coffee because of the high amount of caffeine in it. Today we hear that coffee is good for health. For quite long we believed that green tea prevents diabetes, reduces weight and even cures cancer. It is now reported that these claims are false and that green tea is no better than our regular, refreshing tea.

Since the arrival of Covid-19, “sanitize” has been the buzz word. The market is flooded with sanitizers, many of which landed in our homes. USA has now banned many types of sanitizers since the dangerous chemical “methanol” was found in them which caused loss of smell and loss of sight.

Further, it is reported that sanitizers containing benzol chloride cannot kill any virus but only bacteria. Now how many of us, as common consumers, read and understand the composition of a product before we buy it over the counter. And mind you, the composition is always in fine print.

As long as the manufacturers combine with professionally managed advertising and marketing companies, the common consumers will always be at risk of being confused and fooled.

While the authorities should be more vigilant and check such malpractices, common consumers will do well to remember that washing of hands with soap, balanced home food and physical exercise are our best bet for good health even in the present times.
