The island of Divar was severely affected due to the rise in the level of Mandovi river since the past few days.

The ferry service was also affected along the Old Goa route as the ferry ramp was completely submerged under water.

Speaking to The Goan, Sao Mathias Sarpanch Sadanand Phadte said the rising river water coupled with heavy rains submerged many roads in the village, severely affecting normal life.

“Breach in the bundhs too resulted in saline water flowing onto the roads,” he further added while stating that the water levels were not receding for several hours, making it difficult for commuters to use the roads.

Meanwhile, locals of Panch Manxer Carambolim continue to suffer as the saline water entered the houses for the fifth consecutive day and the people now fear damage to their dwellings which are old and built of mud.
