A 40-year-old man Pramod Chandigadkar is alleged to have killed his father Baliram (70) in Avantinagar-Usgao and later committed suicide in his house.
The incident came to light after the daughter of Baliram Chandigadkar, who lives in Ponda, went home on Wednesday afternoon. Ponda police was immediately informed about the incident.
According to locals, Pramod was seen walking in the Tisk-Usgao market on Tuesday night. He had bought some materials and vegetables required for a religious ceremony on Tuesday night.
Police visited the house and suspect that Pramod had fatally stabbed his father, Baliram, on Tuesday night. Pramod Chandigadkar is believed to have committed suicide by hanging himself some time later.
It was yet another tragedy for the Chandigadkar family. Baliram’s wife had died during the Covid pandemic. About 10-12 years ago, his son-in-law was also murdered in Usgao and his widow was residing in Ponda.
A few years ago, the eldest son had died suddenly after only six months of his marriage. After that, the daughter-in-law went to her home.
The motive for Pramod to have killed his father is unclear and Ponda Police Inspector Vijaynath Kavlekar is investigating the incident.
