Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has expressed disappointment over the pace of road widening at Porvorim against the rise in vehicular traffic owing to the ongoing tourist season.

The minister, also representing Porvorim constituency, indicated that vehicle population has significantly increased in the last few weeks but the pace at which the PWD is carrying out these works is not up to the mark.

“Coordination between departments, especially for water supply, electricity and sewage systems, still needs improvement to ensure that the area functions smoothly,” he added while conveying concerns from the residents during a press conference today. He however assured the works should be complete by December 5, which will bring at least some relief for residents and commuters.

Khaunte further stated that Porvorim flyover project is progressing and the residents are very pro-development. “The planned flyover will be a boon for all of us,” he said.

“We need to ensure there is a smooth flow of traffic, and all efforts are being made to complete road projects, such as the new road connecting Chogm Road to Damian de Goa and the urgent work near the Holy Family School.”

Khaunte also discussed efforts to protect landmarks like the Shri Dev Khapreshwar Devasthan and preserve the 300-year-old banyan tree by working closely with the temple committee for any necessary adjustments while respecting community sentiments.
