The Goan Association (GOA) UK organised its annual table tennis tournament at Bexleyheath-London on October 7, 2023.

Twenty-four participants took part to win the prize of being crowned the GOA UK Champions.

GOA UK Sports Director Savio D’Souza said the players were divided into four groups of six participants.

“We had a round robin league with matches comprising 3 sets played for 11 points. After the first round, we had eight competitors for the quarter finals start, with the 4 winning players ready for a battle for a place in the semifinals,” said D’Souza.

“At the end, we had two players, Glyn Albuquerque and Hadlee Silva, in the finals and Glyn was crowned ultimate champion with an impressive victory over his opponent.”

After the singles, players got into the doubles mode, with Glyn Albuquerque and Andy D’Cruz winning the men’s doubles championship after defeating Myron Luis and Hadlee DSilva in the finals.

“As the dust settled, all players shared talk of good and bad play during the various matches. It is this sportsman spirit that lies in the roots of every Goan. At the end of the event, everyone felt like a winner. The event also gave the Goan Association UK an opportunity to interact with new people,” said D’Souza.

“It was overall a satisfying and exhilarating feeling of organising an event and I would like to thank Lloyd Lobo and his family for their support during the tournament.”
