Goan Community Aberdeen (GCA), a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, celebrated World Goa Day at Ashdale Hall Westhill, Aberdeen, on July 9.
Lord Provost of Aberdeen Councillor David Cameron and Lady Provost along with Bishop Hugh Gilbert of Aberdeen graced the occasion. Vice President Maria (Dimple) Fernandes welcomed everyone with her speech.
Lord Provost David Cameron thanked the Goan Community Aberdeen for inviting him and his family as this was the first World Goa Day celebration. Lord Provost said he loved the people, the music, the good food, and the atmosphere. He also expressed his desire to attend future GCA events.
Bishop Hugh was also glad to be present at the event to offer his full support to the Goan Community. He too said he would be glad to attend future GCA events.
Sensational duo Aurvile Rodrigues and Silvia Fernandes came all the way from Goa to entertain the crowd with their music along with GCA members Ally Rodrigues, Nilesh Gomes and Jose of band "Oceanix" with guests Luden Rodrigues (drums) from Aberdeen and Alcantr (guitar) from Edinburgh. Emcees Jean D’Souza and Athena Fernandes hosted the event.

A Goan 'Kumbi' dance performance by GCA members and a song sung by young children entertained the crowd.
VM caterers and Crispy treats catered authentic Goan food which were included in the ticket price.
Certificates were handed out to all participants who performed on the night. The GCA also felicitated a valuable GCA member, Chrisanne Mendes, on graduating as a Physician Associate on June 30.
The event was attended by over 100 members, non-members, their families and friends.
In his address, GCA Trustee President Sydon Fernandes spoke about the love and support GCA has been receiving from members and non-members. He also thanked the Lord and Lady Provost and Bishop Hugh Gilbert for taking the time out of their busy schedules to attend the GCA World Goa Day celebrations.
He also thanked everyone who attended, donated and sponsored the cake, gift vouchers and contributed towards the success of the event.
