Goan cuisine was widely appreciated at an event hosted by the Indian Embassy in Ireland on February 29.
People representing various states of India were invited to present their cuisine as part of efforts to showcase the rich cultural diversity of India.
Milla Hancock and Samira D’Souza, who represented the Irish Goa community, presented a wide range of Goan cuisine, which included Recheado Mackerel, Ambot Tik Calamari, Chicken Cafreal, fish curry rice, home-made pickle, and vegetables.

“We received a lot of compliments from several of the 300-odd people who attended the event. Even the Indian Ambassador to Ireland His Excellency Akhilesh Mishra made a mention in his speech. In fact, the ambassador even showed interest in some aspects of our Goan cuisine,” said Milla.
“The ambassador said the relationship with India and Ireland is only growing bigger and stronger. He said this was the first such event hosted by the Indian Embassy in Ireland, and he is looking forward for many more events in the Embassy, as part of efforts to showcase the unity and diversity of India,” said Milla.
Milla was grateful to the Indian Embassy in Ireland for having invited the Goan community to present its cuisine.
“On behalf of Irish Goa community, I thank the Embassy and we look forward to hearing from them again soon. The Irish Goa community is happy to take part in in events of the Indian Embassy, so that we can get an opportunity to represent Goa in Europe,” Milla added.

Milla said the Irish Goa community has been organising a number of activities to promote Goan culture in Ireland.
“We had organised a number of events last year and we will either be participating or hosting events this year as well. On March 17, Goans will participate in the Saint Patrick's Day float parade and will continue their tradition of celebrating the Feast of St John the Baptist,” said Milla.
“Following the success of the inaugural Irish Goa Day in 2023, we are gearing up to elevate the event to new heights this year. With a focus on celebrating the fusion of our two cultures through food, dance, and music, we aim to make this event even more memorable and impactful,” Milla added.
