A Goan has been re-elected to the board at the Chamber of Shipping of British Columbia in Canada and has been appointed as Vice Chair for 2025-26.
Captain Clifford Faleiro, who traces his roots to Navelim, was appointed as Vice Chair of the Board at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 18.
Since 1923, the Chamber of Shipping has served as the public voice of the marine industry on Canada’s West Coast, playing a vital role in shaping the sector, providing strategic input at the highest levels of marine policymaking.
According to details from the Chamber of Shipping of British Columbia, the Board of Directors is composed of 11 members who provide governance, policy direction, and industry oversight to the activities of the association. Board members also chair standing committees which deal with day-to-day local issues. The secretariat reports wider national and international issues which have, or the potential to have, a bearing on the marine industry, either commercially or operationally.
“The Chamber is also committed to building and maintaining constructive relationships with legislators at all levels. Meetings between members and other influential marine partners and stakeholders are solution-driven, aimed at achieving the best outcome for all involved. The Chamber provides input at the highest levels of marine policy-making, thanks to close working relationships with a number of Canadian, U.S., and international marine and business associations,” states the Chamber.
Born in Mumbai, Clifford currently serves as Director of Operations for the West Coast of North America at Saga Welco AS in Vancouver, serving as marine operator for the last 26 years.
He is also a board member of the Canadian National Seafarers Welfare Board.
Proud of his Goan heritage, Clifford has been an active member of the Goan Overseas Association (G.O.A), Vancouver, for over 25 years. He continues to support John Braganza, President of the G.O.A Vancouver, in advancing the Association’s many cultural, social, sports, and community initiatives.
Clifford is also the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus (KofC), a global Catholic fraternal organisation committed to charitable causes, at Richmond-Canada.
Clifford has been very involved with charity events and mainly those connected with the Knights of Columbus of BC. He loves sports and is an avid hockey and cricket fan.
“The G.O.A Vancouver extends its heartfelt congratulations to Clifford on this new role and wishes him continued success in his contributions to the GOA and the broader community,” said G.O.A Vancouver President John Braganza.
