The Tiatr ‘Fuddem Panvl Mar’ was part of a series of initiatives by the Youth Goan Association UK to connect, empower, and celebrate young Goan talent in the UK
LONDON
Goan youth made history in the United Kingdom with their debut theatrical performance on January 25 at 6.30 pm.
The Tiatr ‘Fuddem Panvl Mar’, which was hosted by the Youth Goan Association UK (YGA) at Villiers High School, Southall, was the first-ever drama show performed entirely by children of Goan descent in the UK. The event garnered a massive response, with the venue filled to capacity.
The performance featured 16 soulful songs, seven captivating parts of a play, and five rib-tickling comedies that left the audience thoroughly entertained.
The play, written by the Fr Milagres Dias and directed by Mark Silva, was a testament to the extraordinary talent and dedication of the young Goan actors. Every performer, from singers to comedians, was a young artist, showcasing their incredible versatility and commitment to preserving Goan culture and heritage.
Others involved in the Tiatr included Maestro Framton (music), Agostinho (stage sets), Conny (sound) and Gregg (lights).
The audience, comprising Goans and drama enthusiasts from various backgrounds, gave thunderous applause and standing ovations throughout the evening.
The show’s unique blend of music, drama, and comedy resonated deeply with the crowd. The 16 songs, some of which were traditional Goan melodies and others modern adaptations, were performed with passion and precision. The seven-part play was gripping and thought-provoking, reflecting themes of community, culture, and resilience.
The five comedy segments provided much-needed moments of lightheartedness, filling the hall with laughter. The overwhelming response to the show prompted the Youth Goan Association UK to announce an encore performance on February 1 at 3 pm. This decision reflects the group’s commitment to meeting public demand and providing another opportunity for the community to witness this historic production.
The YGA was appreciated for their efforts to bring Goan culture to the UK stage, and many felt that their initiative would inspire more youth to embrace and celebrate their heritage.
This event not only marked a milestone for the Goan community but also highlighted the immense potential of the younger generation in preserving and promoting cultural traditions.
The Youth Goan Association
The YGA has initiated a series of initiatives to connect, empower, and celebrate young Goan talent in the UK.
The brainchild of two passionate young individuals, Oligson Fernandes and Mark Silva, the YGA UK emerged in March 2023 when they recognised the need for a supportive network and they envisioned an organisation that empowers and uplifts young Goans and their families in the UK.
With continued community support, the YGA UK is poised to make an even greater impact.
Fuelling their mission, the YGA has launched a dynamic series of initiatives designed to connect, empower, and celebrate the vibrant talent within the young Goan community.
One of these initiatives is the ‘YGA Connects Podcast’, a platform that serves as a springboard for young Goan artistes, musicians (MCs, DJs), and budding entrepreneurs.
“This exciting podcast provides a space for them to share their stories, experiences, and journeys, fostering inspiration among others in the community,” said Mark Silva.
“Beyond the podcast, the YGA prioritises fostering a strong sense of community, and we can expect a calendar brimming with events and activities that encourage connection and collaboration.”
“These events will provide opportunities for young Goans to build lasting friendships, exchange ideas, and celebrate their shared heritage.”
Details of the ‘YGA Connects Podcast’ are available on the YGA YouTube channel: Youth Goan Association UK.”
Silva said another program on the horizon is the ‘Tailoring Workshop’ for young women.
“This initiative, funded by the Freshwater Foundation, provides a unique opportunity for young Goan girls to explore their creativity and develop a valuable practical skill in a fun and engaging environment,” he said.
