Goans celebrate Bonderam with fanfare in London

LONDON

Bonderam, a vibrant and unique Goan tradition from Divar-Goa, was celebrated amid much fanfare at the Cranford Community Centre in West London on August 25, to preserve cultural roots while fostering a sense of community among Goans living overseas.

Organised by Keegan D’Costa for three consecutive years, this year’s UK Bonderam was a grand affair, featuring a colourful flag parade, dance performances and music by the UK bands ‘Treble Makers’ and ‘Rhythm Mates’.

Additionally, there was a special performance by Alison Gonsalves from Goa and Wahida Carmen Gomes, adding a touch of authenticity to the celebrations. The event was hosted by Emcee Cassius Gomes, ensuring a lively and engaging atmosphere.

The festivities included a fancy dress competition for both juniors and seniors, encouraging participants of all ages to showcase their creativity and cultural pride.

The event’s catering was handled by Ali Rou’s, with bar services provided by Twisted Lime, ensuring attendees enjoyed the best in Goan cuisine and drinks.

The event’s design was curated by Freddy Ferrao, while printing support was provided by Kutzmasters. Merchandise was available from ‘Born in Goa’, allowing attendees to take a piece of their cultural heritage home with them.

“Bonderam UK is more than just a festival; it is a bridge between continents, connecting the Goan diaspora with their roots and sharing their rich cultural heritage with the wider community,” said Keegan.

“Bonderam UK has become a cherished tradition, celebrated with the same fervour and joy as it is in Goa, and it continues to grow in popularity each year.”
