VANCOUVER
The Goan community in Vancouver came together in deep faith and devotion to observe the ‘Khursachi Vatt’ (Stations of the Cross) held for the very first time in Konkani at the Holy Spirit Church, New Westminster on March 29.
As the sacred Lenten season calls for reflection, repentance, and renewal, Goans reverently recited prayers, responses, and traditional hymns in Konkani, led by Fr Joaquim Dias.
The heartfelt participation of the community echoed a deep spiritual connection, as they journeyed together through the 14 Stations of the Cross, reflecting on the path Jesus Christ walked toward His crucifixion.
Following the solemn devotion, the congregation gathered in fellowship to share a simple yet traditional Lenten meal. Authentic Goan fare — pez, melgor, toram xiro, lonchem, and chonne — was served, embodying the spirit of humility and togetherness during this time of penance.
As one big family rooted in faith and culture, the Goan community made this evening not only a spiritual milestone but a heart-warming celebration of unity and tradition.
The Goan community appreciated Steffi Britto, Sylvia Fernandes, Levita Rebello, Rency Rebello, Tinu Fernandes, William Britto, Clifford Almeida, Tanisha Fernandes, and Clifford Mascarenhas for their efforts towards this initiative.
