LONDON

It was a packed hall as the Irish Goan Community participated in a ‘dine and dance’ event at The Greystones Rugby Club in Wicklow-Ireland on October 6 from 7.30 pm to 11 pm, to raise funds for a unique and affordable community nursing home for the Irish and Goans.

Milla Hancock and Nora Hayden, Community Leaders of the Irish Goan Community in Ireland and organisers of the recent Goa Day Ireland, said live music was by Austin Prior and Goan DJ Neville Fernandez, besides entertainment by Victor Evans.

“The night was just electric. We had people of different age groups, right from three years to 96 years in attendance. We had sold out all tickets, but people were still eager to be part of the celebration. There was a mixture of Irish and Goan music, with everyone dancing to traditional Goan tunes,” said Milla.

“Besides yummy Irish food, we had delicious traditional Goan cuisine which included Sorpotel, Chouriço and pulao. People enjoyed Goan food, and it was in high demand.”

There was also a raffle with a number of prizes.

In his address, Wicklow Councillor Stephen Stokes commended the Irish Goan community for their noble gesture in planning a community nursing home and pledged full support to the community.

Stokes said he enjoyed the event, Goan food and dance, and added that he looked forwarded to similar events in future as it would promote a closer bond among the Irish and Goan community in Wicklow.

Milla said this event was part of efforts to raise money for an affordable nursing home for the Irish Goan community.
