LONDON
The Youth Goan Association (YGA) will launch a series of initiatives to connect, empower, and celebrate young Goan talent in the UK.
The brainchild of two passionate young individuals, Oligson Fernandes and Mark Silva, the YGA UK emerged in March 2023 when they recognised the need for a supportive network and they envisioned an organisation that empowers and uplifts young Goans and their families in the UK.
With continued community support, the YGA UK is poised to make an even greater impact.
Fuelling their mission, the YGA is launching a dynamic series of initiatives designed to connect, empower, and celebrate the vibrant talent within the young Goan community.
THE PODCAST
The centrepiece of this initiative is the ‘YGA Connects Podcast’, a brand new platform that serves as a springboard for young Goan artistes, musicians (MCs, DJs), and budding entrepreneurs.
“This exciting podcast provides a space for them to share their stories, experiences, and journeys, fostering inspiration among others in the community. The bi-weekly podcast, scheduled for release every other Tuesday, kicks off on June 18, promising insightful and engaging content,” said Mark Silva.
“Beyond the podcast, the YGA prioritises fostering a strong sense of community, and we can expect a calendar brimming with events and activities that encourage connection and collaboration.”
“These events will provide opportunities for young Goans to build lasting friendships, exchange ideas, and celebrate their shared heritage.”
Silva said the YGA's success wouldn't be possible without the support of dedicated partners.

“The ‘YGA Connects Podcast’ is co-powered by D&C studioz, Zee Travels, Aria Cafe-Southall, and KutMasterz. Additionally, the YGA is grateful for the collaboration with G.O.A UK, Goan Welfare Society UK (partners), and Awaaz 99.8 FM Southampton (media partner),” acknowledged Silva.
“Furthermore, the YGA extends its gratitude to Fr Jovito Dsouza, Parish Priest of St Anselm's Catholic Church, Southall, for providing the location for their initiatives. Details of the ‘YGA Connects Podcast’ are available on the YGA YouTube channel: Youth Goan Association UK.”
THE WORKSHOP
Silva said another program on the horizon is the ‘Tailoring Workshop’ for young women.
“This initiative, funded by the Freshwater Foundation, kicks off on June 21. The workshop provides a unique opportunity for young Goan girls to explore their creativity and develop a valuable practical skill in a fun and engaging environment,” he said.
“The Freshwater Foundation, a crucial partner in the tailoring workshop for young women, deserves special mention. The Foundation's commitment to empowering young people aligns perfectly with the YGA's vision, and their support ensures the success of this empowering workshop.”
THE MOVEMENT
The YGA has extended a warm invitation to anyone interested in contributing to, or benefiting from, its initiatives.
“Whether you're a young Goan with a story to share on the podcast, a community member with event ideas, or simply someone looking to support our programmes, the YGA welcomes you with open arms,” said Silva.
“For those who wish to donate and support the YGA's programs and initiatives, or to contribute to helping a young person in need, donation details is made available on our website www.youthgoanassociaton.com. In the meantime, you can reach out to the YGA directly at 07585693669.”
“The Youth Goan Association UK is a beacon of hope and opportunity for young Goans in the UK. Our dedication to connection, empowerment, and celebration is a recipe for a vibrant and thriving community,” he added.
