The Porvorim police arrested a 21-year-old in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 79-year-old pedestrian at Betim on Nov 26. The accused, identified as Himanshu Santu, a native of Uttar Pradesh, is an employee at a resort in Betim. The police said that he was driving a rented blue Baleno car that hit the pedestrian at Ramnagar, Betim.
The victim identified aa Laxmibai Satpute, a resident of Kolhapur in Maharashtra, was rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim but succumbed to her injuries during treatment. A team led by Police Inspector Rahul Parab was formed to identify and trace the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested and the car seized for probe. The police have registered an FIR under sections 281 (reckless driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the BNS Act 2023, along with sections 3 read with 181 and 134(a)(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
