MARGAO: Parish Youth Nuvem edged past Navelim Villagers Union 4-3 in the tie-breaker to enter the finals of the 33rd Super Soccer tournament in memory of Joao Francis Fernandes, organised by United Boys of Dando Colva.
It was a strategic battle of ball possession and counter-attacks. Both teams played cautiously, keen to avoid conceding goals. Joyson Coutino's powerful shot in the 10th minute, skillfully tipped to the corner by Nuvem's keeper Mackvino Colaco highlighted the first half, which ended goalless.
The second half saw both teams striving to break the deadlock but neither could find the net. The final 10 minutes were particularly tense and cautious as both sides seemed more focused on not conceding than scoring. The match ended in a goalless draw, leading to a nail-biting tiebreaker.
Nuvem emerged victorious in the shootout. Alvito Dias of Parish Youth Nuvem was named Man of the Match and received the trophy from Anthony Pango, Vice President of the Goa Football Association.
Nuvem will now meet Sao Jose de Areal in final on Sunday.
