PORVORIM: The Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr (TSKK), Porvorim organised the ‘Kantaranchi Sanz’ on August 24, to highlight the immense contributions of the Konkani stage personalities, the Tiatrists.
This programme held in the honour of the World Goa Day combined Konkani music, dance and the history of the Kantaram. The three-hour programme consisted of three sections revolving around the Konkani Kantaram.
The first section comprised a screening of a documentary, ‘Kantar Goa’ by Nalini Elvino de Sousa, highlighting the cultural significance and relevance of the Konkani Kantaram to Goa and its identity.
In the second session, Leaxan Freitas spinned for the audience from the vinyl records a list of specially curated rare Konkani Kantaram sung by the legendary tiatrists that featured in the Nalini’s documentary.
In the third session, Cecille Rodrigues choreographed for the audience a fun-filled and easy to dance steps to the song of ‘Nachum-ia Kumpasar’. The young and the elderly energetically danced to the steps taught by Cecille after a long listening session. TSKK Director Dr Pandurang Phaldesai welcomed the guests while Fr Kelwin Monteiro delivered the vote of thanks.
