A book 'Counselling: theories, techniques and practice', written by Carmelite Priest Dr Praveen D'Souza, director of Emmaus Counselling Centre, Mapusa was released by Fr Ivo Dias, superior of the Carmelite Seminary at Peddem-Mapusa during the Christmas Mass. Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao has written a forward to the book. The book focuses on major Western as well as Eastern theories of counselling. It also has a Spiritual theory of Counselling.
The theories answer four questions: What is the view of human nature, what makes the person distressed, how to bring the person from distress to wellness and what techniques to use.The book not only deals with theories but also with the practical application of theories to a case. This book will be useful to lay people, religious, practicing counsellors and students of counselling psychology. Fr Praveen D'Souza, who hails from Agrar-Mangalore, has completed his PhD in Counselling Psychology (Clinical) at De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines.
