MARGAO: Cumborda SC prevailed over Paldem SC 4-1 via tie-breaker in the1st Caniza Peixoto Memorial Football Tournament, organized by Agxem Sports Club and held at St. Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Thursday.
Both sides had opportunities to score, with Diago of Paldem unleashing a long-range shot that Cumborda's goalkeeper Johnson Bagot brilliantly punched away. Myrich of Cumborda also came close, with his header from the box narrowly missing the target. The second half mirrored the first, with Roy, Benson, and Veron of Cumborda, and Benny, Seby, and Godwin of Paldem, all threatening to break the deadlock. However, the determined defenses and the wet pitch kept the score at 0-0 after regulation time.
With the scores tied, the match went into a penalty shoot-out. Cumborda's Myrick, Sam, Veron, and Maxon all converted their spot kicks, while Paldem could only manage one successful penalty from Fabio.
Godwin Mascarenhas of Paldem Sports Club was awarded the Man of the Match title by Conny Peixoto, Vice President of the Club.
