MAPUSA:

An elderly couple was swindled out of gold ornaments worth lakhs by two individuals impersonating as police officers at the busy Bastora junction on Wednesday.

The couple, on their way back home to Aldona after finishing their errands in Mapusa, were stopped by the fake cops.

The impersonators warned them about recent robberies in Aldona, advising the couple to take precautions with their valuables.

To appear convincing, the duo even stopped other vehicles, pretending to be on duty.

Trusting the fake officers, the woman voluntarily removed her gold chain, pendant, and bangles, placing them in her bag.

The impostors then requested to check the bag, under the pretence of searching for drugs.

They swiftly removed the gold ornaments and fled the scene on their motorcycle.

Realising they had been deceived, the couple rushed to the Mapusa police station to file a complaint.

The Mapusa Police have since registered a case against the unknown suspects and launched an investigation.
