Shubhamrao Dessai has been elected unopposed as Sarpanch of Guirim panchayat. The post had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Babaji Gadekar had submitted his resignation a fortnight ago citing personal reasons. Mapusa Block Development Officer convened a special meeting in the panchayat office to elect the new sarpanch. All nine panch members Dy Sarpanch Shreya Naik, Sani Nanodkar, Srimati Nanodkar, Kalpesh Naik, Jagannath Gadekar, Sukanti Kandolkar, Babaji Gadekar, Shubhamrao Dessai and Dalini Franco were present at the meeting. The candidature of Shubhamrao Dessai was proposed by Babaji Gadekar and seconded by Shreya Naik. Since there was no opposition candidate, the presiding officer Khushali Halarnkar declared Shubhamrao Dessai elected unopposed. Khushali Halarnkar from the Mapusa BDO conducted the election proceedings and was assisted by the Panchayat Secretary Snehal Korgaonkar.
