Keshav Narayan Betkikar, a prominent freedom fighter whose legacy is preserved at the ‘Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa - The Land, The Struggle, The People’ in Sinquerim, was born on February 18, 1930, in Ponda. He was a Goa Legislative Assembly (GLA) member and later joined the Indian National Congress (INC). Keshav Betkikar was an active participant in Goa’s freedom struggle against the Portuguese.

He distributed pamphlets and organised bhajans in temples, intending to convince people of the importance of the freedom movement. Betkikar was also arrested in connection with an attempt to trigger a bomb explosion at a water supply line at Curti, Ponda, and was detained in police custody for about ten days.
