Two vehicles which were gutted in the fire at Ektanagar-Mapusa.

A man from Dangui Colony in Mapusa was arrested on charges of setting ablaze the two-wheeler used by his estranged wife and two other vehicles at Ektanagar-Mapusa in the wee hours of Saturday.
The incident took place at about 3.45 am when a scooter was set ablaze and the flames engulfed another scooter and a motorcycle near the Sai Baba temple in Ektanagar.
A police complaint was filed and based on CCTV footage, Mapusa police identified the accused, Tamsim Sheikh (33) and later arrested him in the connection. Police is conducting investigation under the guidance of Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar.
In another incident, a flat was gutted in a fire at Orda-Candolim on Saturday morning, destroying property worth Rs 1.5 lakh. The family staying in the rented flat had gone out and a fire is reported to have started at about 9.25 am. On receiving news of the fire, the family rushed back home and alerted the Pilerne fire station.
A fire tender had difficulty reaching the site as the narrow road which had four-wheelers parked by the roadside. The fire was later extinguished, but household items were destroyed.
