MARGAO: Bethany Convent HS got the better of Infant Jesus HS 6-5 via tie-breaker in the Founders Cup U-17 boys' 9-a-side tournament, organised by Union of Chinchinim villagers and played on chinchinim church ground.
Infant Jesus started strong, with Aniket Kumar opening the scoring in the 19th minute, followed by Prison Mondal doubling the lead three minutes later. Bethany Convent managed to pull one back just before halftime courtesy of Josley Gomes, sending the teams into the break at 2-1 to Infant Jesus.
The second half saw Mohamad Istiyaf extend Infant Jesus' lead to 3-1. However, Bethany Convent refused to give up. Josley Gomes netted his second goal in the 65th minute, and Slone Tereza equalized in the dying minutes, forcing a penalty shootout.
In the nerve-wracking shootout, Bethany Convent held their composure. Josley Gomes, Steven, and Slone Tereza converted their penalties, while only Aryan and Mohamad Istiyaf found the net for Infant Jesus.
The second match of the day saw The Kings School Sao Jose de Areal dominate Mt. Carmel High School with a convincing 2-0 win. Ashton Rodrigues put The Kings School ahead in the 14th minute. Aloysius Fernandes added another goal in the 63rd minute to seal the win for his team.
