On Girl Child Day, the Corlim Parish Youth organised a candlelight march to highlight the ongoing issue of crimes against women and to educate the community on available support during times of crisis. The event held on September 1st, saw a large turnout, with participants from Corlim and neighboring villages joining hands in solidarity. The streets of Corlim were illuminated by candles, symbolising hope and resilience against the darkness of violence and injustice. Dr. Sabina Martins, the Founder of Bailancho Saad and a renowned social activist and advocate, delivered the keynote address. She provided awareness on the declining sex ratio, the rise in crimes against women, and the importance of knowing how to seek help. Dr. Martins also shared key helpline numbers and emphasised that as a society, it is vital to change our mindset to effectively combat these challenges. The event was supported by Fr. Kevan Rodrigues, who played an essential role in guiding the youth and the community throughout the march. Social activist Samil Volvoikar also attended the march.
