Post-rape and murder of the young Kolkata doctor, the G R Kare College of Law observed National Sports Day by holding a workshop on self-defence for students.
The workshop was organised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the law College. The event aimed at empowering students, particularly girls, with essential self-defense skills. The workshop began with a warm welcome from the Officiating Principal, Dr. Maria Goretti Simoes, who highlighted the importance of self-defense training for girl students.Dr Manoj V. Hede, College Director of Physical Education and Sports stressed the importance of physical fitness and awareness of self-defense techniques in today's world. The highlight of the workshop was a demonstration of SQAY Martial Arts by senior students under the guidance of Bhavya Acharya Kashinath Nayak, the Secretary of the Sqay Association of Goa. They were Valanie Dsouza, Anvishree Shetkar, Pratiksha Gaunekar, Swarada Shirodkar, Avdesh Meena, Tinku Kumar Pandit and Sanket Gawande. Around 40 students actively participated in the workshop, with a majority of the participants being girls.
