MARGAO: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Wednesday called for a second coconut shredding machine for Margao due to the rising amount of coconut waste in the city.
Speaking after inaugurating a Rs 13 lakh coconut waste shredder at Sonsodo, in the presence of Margao Civic Chief Damu Shirodkar, Chief Officer Melvyn Vaz, councillors, and officials, Kamat highlighted the need for a vehicle-mounted shredding machine to collect and process coconut waste directly from wards.
“The Margao Municipal Council has taken a significant step to address the coconut waste problem in the city. This Rs 13 lakh machine can process around 500 kilograms of coconut waste per hour, which will greatly help in managing the waste generated,” he said.
The MLA, along with the Municipal Chairperson, also reviewed the ongoing works at Sonsodo and other municipal projects, accompanied by civic officials.
