MARGAO: Rosary HS Navelim dominated their match against St. Xavier's HS Velim, securing a comfortable 2-0 win in the Founders Cup 2024 U-17 boys' 9-a-side football tournament, held at Chinchinim Church ground.
Rahul opened the scoring within two minutes, dribbling past the Xavier defense with ease. Despite some spectacular saves by St Xavier's goalkeeper Samuel D'Silva in the second half, Rosary managed to add another goal in the closing minutes. Samuel was nonetheless awarded Player of the Match for his valiant efforts.
The second quarter-final between Bethany Convent HS and The Kings School turned into a tense affair. Both teams adopted a cautious approach, resulting in a scoreless draw at both half-time and full-time. The match ultimately went to penalties, where Bethany Convent emerged victorious 3-0. Their goalkeeper stood tall, denying all three penalty attempts from The Kings School, while Josely, Steven, and Floyd converted their spot-kicks for Bethany. Astroy Costa, the Bethany Convent goalkeeper, received the Player of the Match award for his decisive performance in the tiebreaker.
