PANAJI: Goa University will host a two-day international seminar, ‘India-Portugal: Confluence of Cultures’, on January 6 and 7, 2024. The event is organised by the Shenoi Goembab School of Languages and Literature and the School of Sanskrit, Philosophy, and Indic Studies, in collaboration with Yale University and the Joaquim Heliodoro da Cunha Rivara Chair under the Visiting Research Professors Programme.
The seminar will explore the deep ties between Indian and Portuguese cultures through keynote addresses, paper presentations, and panel discussions by experts from India, Portugal, and the United States. Cultural events will include the screening of Vince Costa’s documentary Saxtticho Koddo, exhibitions by Dogears Bookstore and artist Vaibhav Salgaonkar, and displays highlighting the fusion of traditions.
On January 8, master classes will be held at the Seminar Hall, Faculty Block B. The day will conclude with a performance of Orlando da Costa’s Portuguese play ‘No Flowers, No Wreaths’ (Sem Flores Nem Coroas), translated by Dr Isabel de Santa Rita Vas. The play will be staged at 4.30 pm in the Chemistry Auditorium, Faculty Block E. Registration is required to attend this seminar, which promises rich insights into the cultural intersections of India and Portugal.
