MARGAO: United Club Verna entered the quarterfinals after beating Curtorim Gymkhana 2-0 in the inter-village football match, organised by St. Sebastian Union Club, at Dando ground, Benaulim, on Thursday.
From the outset, United Club Verna dominated with Eusebio and Clive Fernandes orchestrating play and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Despite their dominance, United Club Verna's forwards struggled to capitalise, leaving the first half goalless. The breakthrough came in the 42nd minute when Clifton Rebelo of United Club of Verna capitalised on a rebound after a diving effort by Curtorim's keeper. Rebelo struck again in the 60th minute, securing a 2-0 victory for United Club Verna. This win propelled them into the quarter-finals, marking a successful outing for the team.
