Tweet Foundation in Collaboration with Goa Livelihoods Forum and Goa State AIDS Control Society conducted sensitisation and capacity building workshops on Provision of the Transgender person (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, and Rules, 2020 at Institute of Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji. The programme, funded by the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, government of India, was conducted in the presence of Umakant Sawant, joint director IEC GSACS, Ashok Parab, member secretary, Institute Menezes Braganza, Pradnya Dessai, assistant director, Department of Social Welfare, Urmi Jadhav, programme officer, Tweet Foundation, representatives from Humsath Trust, Darpan, and Rishta, along with their program managers. Asha Vernekar, Founder of Goa Livelihoods Forum emphasised the importance of supporting the transgender community. Key sessions were held by resource persons Urmi Jadhav and Nikita Gupta providing valuable insights into gender sensitisation, legal rights, and documentation procedures for transgender cards. The participants urged the concerned departments to address the challenges faced by the transgender community, such as having access to basic facilities like public toilets, medical facilities, shelter, and livelihoods.
