Nearly a month after four people died in one of the deadliest self-accidents, the Agassaim police finally sent their viscera samples to a forensic laboratory to ascertain alcohol contents in the blood.
The samples were sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory at Verna only three days ago. A report is expected within a month, a senior police officer told The Goan.
“We have sent viscera samples of the four deceased to Verna FSL to trace alcohol in their blood if any. In the meantime, our inquiry under section 174 CrPC is nearly complete pending the forensic report,” the officer said.
Four people died in the early hours of July 28 after the SUV car they were traveling in crashed into the railings of Zuari Bridge and plunged into the river. A joint operation conducted by State agencies, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Coast Guard lasted almost 12 hours. The Navy divers pulled the car out through magnetic machinery and the rescuers cut open the doors to retrieve the four bodies.
The victims were identified as Priscilla Mary Tavares Cruz alias Pupul, her partner Henry Araujo, his brother Harley Araujo and a close friend Austin Fernandes.
The speeding SUV car, traveling towards Panaji from South Goa, was trying to overtake another vehicle in the same direction when it lost control and rammed into the railing of the Bridge, and plunged into the river.
A search operation was launched at sunrise, while the rescue teams cited darkness and high tide as the reason for the delay in commencing the rescue operation.
