Citizens protest against EVMs in Goa, activists detained by Police

Panaji: Concerned citizens gathered under the banner "Goans Against EVM" staged a protest at Azad Maidan, demanding a ban on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), especially for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The protestors voiced their concerns over the alleged faults and inaccuracies in the EVM machines used in the country.

Following the demonstration at Azad Maidan, activists, and members of Goans Against EVM marched towards the Election Commission and the Chief Minister's official residence. However, their progress was halted by the police as they attempted to reach the CEO office in Altinho.

In a turn of events, Goa Police detained several members, including Advocate Pratima Coutinho and Mansoor Sheikh, associated with Goans Against EVM. The arrests occurred during the march towards the CEO office.

The protestors argue that EVMs have inherent flaws and are prone to inaccuracies, fueling their demand for an alternative voting system. The detention of activists further intensifies the ongoing debate over the use of EVMs in the Indian electoral process.
