PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured that strict action will be taken against the officer involved in the bribery case at the Konkan Railway Police Station in Margao.

The assurance came after a late-night raid by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), which resulted in the arrest of Head Constable Hussain and the detention of Police Inspector Sunil Gudlar.

The operation followed a complaint from a Belgaum-based goat meat trader, alleging that Inspector Gudlar had demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh and monthly payments of Rs 25,000 to protect him from a criminal case. The bribe demand was reportedly communicated through Head Constable Hussain.

ACB officers set a trap last night and arrested Hussain while he was accepting an advance payment of Rs 25,000 inside Gudlar's office. The marked cash was later recovered from a drawer in the inspector's cabin.

“Both officers are under investigation, and all relevant evidence is being seized,” confirmed ACB SP Nelson Albuquerque. “We will be recommending their suspension to the department.”

The trader also claimed he had been threatened with arrest in a case filed on March 30, despite having no connection to it.
