Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that all rights, titles, and interests vested in the Custodian of Evacuee Property have been transferred to the District Collector (North) under the Goa (Abolition of Proprietorship, Titles and Grants of Lands) Act.

“If there are similar properties in other parts of the State, we also intend to take possession of them under the above mentioned laws,” he further said while presenting the Budget 2024-25 on the floor of the House on Thursday.

The issue has been long debated with Mayem Bhuvimochan Nagarik Kruti Samiti leading protests in the past demanding to expeditiously dispose of applications of evacuee property, citing that without land ownership documents the people of Mayem were not getting government benefits.

It was thereafter that the government had over two years ago asked the North Goa collectorate to streamline the process of providing charters (sanad) to the villagers of Mayem to allot them ownership rights over the property.

Meanwhile, the government made a financial provision of Rs 77.87 crores for the Information and Publicity Department. CM Sawant also announced that the government is in the process of implementing the Goa Journalist Protection Act. The Bill has been sent to the President of India for consent.
