A day after Karnataka excise officials arrested Goa Excise Inspector Pramod Juvekar for alleged liquor smuggling, the State Excise Department suspended him.
According to reports, Juvekar was allegedly caught red-handed transporting 138.05 litres of Goa-made liquor into Karnataka during a raid in Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, on Sunday.
He was arrested and his Goa-registered vehicle was seized for further probe.
After an initial report from their counterparts, the Goa Excise Department issued a suspension order on Monday evening.
The Additional Commissioner of Excise has been directed to conduct an inquiry and submit a report at the earliest.
Sources told The Goan the department will now seek a detailed report from its counterparts in Karnataka and quiz Juvekar as part of the inquiry.
