Goa to implement Unified Pension Scheme

Panaji: Cabinet has given its approval, in principle, to implement a Unified Pension Scheme- a Central scheme-  for government employees in the state. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that under this new scheme, retired employees will receive a minimum pension of Rs 10,000 or 50% of their basic salary, whichever is higher.

This decision is expected to benefit a large number of government employees, providing them with more financial security after retirement. However, the scheme will add an extra financial burden of around Rs 10 crore each month to the state's budget.

Despite the additional cost, CM Sawant also said that the government is committed to ensuring better retirement benefits for its employees.
