Goa's student-teacher ratio within national average: Central report

While speaking about bringing much-needed reforms in the education sector, the BJP-led State government has managed to keep up with the Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) norm in the government schools.

As per the data released by the Centre, in Goa, the student-teacher ratio across all levels of school education has remained within the parameters of the national average.

The Union Minister for State for Education Annpurna Devi said that as per the Central report 2021-22, the PTR for the government schools in Goa has remained best within the national average at primary, upper primary, elementary, secondary as well as higher secondary level.

As per the report, PTR at the primary level remained at one teacher per 15 students, as compared to the national average of one teacher per 28 students. At upper primary, Goa has one teacher for every 12 students as against national average of 1:24 while at elementary stage it has one teacher per 14 students while the national average is 1:26. At secondary level, the ratio is 7:1 (national average of 19:1) and 19:1 (27:1) at higher secondary level.

According to the report, the States like Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand and Union Territory Delhi have got PTR much below the national average. The Ministry further said that Goa along with 10 other States has set up Vidya Samiksha Kendra - to evaluate the performance of students and teachers; ICT and Digital initiatives component of a centrally sponsored scheme of Samagra Shiksha. Under this component financial assistance is provided for establishing ICT Lab and Smart Classrooms in schools.
