The State government will pay ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of Covid victims.
The scheme was notified on Friday which specifies a one-time ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the families of Covid-19 victims.
Only those families whose annual income does not exceed Rs 8 lakh will be eligible for the Rs 2-lakh ex-gratia payment from the government, according to the notification.
Also, the scheme states that each family will be eligible to file only one claim.
Other conditions like 15 years domicile have also been applied to the scheme which will be implemented by the Social Welfare Department.
The scheme will come into force from the date of publication of the scheme in the official gazette.
Thus far 3062 people have died in Goa from Covid-19 or related complications since the first death reported in mid-March of 2020.
This Rs 2-lakh ex-gratia scheme is the first financial intervention from the State government.
Several other States have come up with pension schemes and bank-rolling of education costs for students orphaned with one or both parents falling victim to the dreaded virus.
