GPNS marks 150th year   of ‘Service Postal’

Goa Philatelic and Numismatic Society (GPNS) celebrated 150th year of ‘Service Postal’ (1871-2021) with various activities at Tapal Bhawan, Patto Panaji. A Special Cover was released on the occasion by Post Master General, Col S F H Rizvi. As October 1 is also celebrated as the World Postcard Day, a set of four postcards were also released on this occasion with one card depicting Goa’s first Post crossing meetup held at Tapal Bhavan.

“Post crossing project was announced too. The goal of this project is to allow anyone to send and receive postcards from all over the world. The idea is simple: for each postcard you send, you will receive one back from a random post-crosser from somewhere in the world,” states Dr Ramesh Kumar, president, Goa Philatelic and Numismatic Society.

The set of postcards released by the Department of Posts, Goa Postal Division consists of one on the natural heritage of Goa and two others on the architectural heritage of Goa. 

A special bulletin on the forthcoming GOAPEX 2021 was also released during the occasion, consisting of three articles. One is Saint Francis Xavier released by Dr M R Ramesh Kumar, the second one is for commemorating 150 years of first stamp in Goa released by Roland de Melo (joint secretary, GPNS) and third is to celebrated World Postcard Day, which was released by Dr Sudhir Jhakere, SSPO, DoP, Goa Postal Division.

A special cancellation on the World Postcard Day was also released by the Department of Posts, Goa Postal Division, Goa. This is a one-day cancellation which will be available only for one day (October 1) at Head Post Office, Panaji and Head Post Office, Margao to mark the World Postcard Day.
